Majors [03 Jan 2010|12:19am]

Hi all! I'm a newbie and just came with a simple, general question:

What is everyone's major (if you're currently in school)? How did you come to decide on that as your major of choice? If you're out of school or getting out of school, what do you plan to do with the major in the future?

The reason behind me asking: I'm a student at a community college who has changed my major so often, the guidance counselors kind of shudder when I come in to their office. I've tried teaching (I don't have enough of voice, projection, or strength to keep anyone's attention), Psychology (my heart isn't it in, really), and Pre-Med (I failed the math/ science courses I took). So I was just wondering if I could hear some of your stories and see if they couldn't help me out just a little bit.

I would appreciate any and all comments left and I just wanted to say I'm really thankful to have a community like this, I hope to use it a lot as I get ready to transfer.

Hello everyone. I've been watching this comm for a while and it's been super helpful for me with preparing for choosing colleges, etc.

I'm a junior and I'm still trying to make my list of prospective colleges smaller, but I'm having a problem.

Aahh, spring semester starts in two days!

I am pretty confident in the classes I signed up for, but I'm just kind of unsure about one. I took ECO2013 (Economics I) last year and loved it, so I decided to take ECO2023 (Economics II) this semester for kicks. It's not a requirement, but I liked the teacher and the subject.

I'm just not sure what, uh, ECO2023 is. I am horrified by math (yeah, I'm one of those people) and have been told that ECO2023 involves a lot more formulas and number crunching than EC02013 and to be honest, I'm scared shitless.

What're your experiences?

Help! [02 Jan 2010|12:19pm]

I may have posted here before...but I really can't decide between social work and health administration. To me health administration seems like a desk job, that's pretty numbing..while with social work it seems like I would be helping people a lot more, and it would be pretty interesting. Now the problem is that I do like to live VERY comfortably. And as I understand it health administration will give me more money. Compared to social work, health administration is double the pay...even when starting out. What do I do?! Any input is much appreciated...

Chemistry Required? [29 Dec 2009|10:52pm]

[candiedpeaches]
I've noticed lately as I've been paging through some college books that Chemistry, Physics and Biology is required for some schools. I've already taken Biology as a 10th grader (last year), however my Physics class is a 2 year long course and I don't have any schedule room next year to take Chemistry. (I'm going for my IB Diploma.)

Will these schools understand that I could not take Chemistry in high school because of the cirrculum I was in or should I find a class to drop (Ones that aren't required for my IB Diploma, like Band or French) in order to take Chemistry?

Thanks a ton.

Also, because I can't for the life of me figure this out, how do you take yourself off of a college's mailing list? I keep getting emails, packets and phone calls from a school that I don't have any interest in. (I think that my career counslor misread the schools I was interested in or something like that.)

Getting down to the wire.. [29 Dec 2009|06:41pm]

I'm writing my essay for my application, and I was wondering if there's an unwritten rule of how long you can make it. So far it's 832 words and at this rate, I think it'll go a bit over 1000.

Also, would anyone be willing to proofread and offer any input on it when I'm done? I'm probably going to have it finished by 5:00 PM EST tomorrow. I want to submit my applications tomorrow.

And lastly... )

Thanks, guys. :)

I unfortunately just found out that the Psychology AA program is being discontinued in 2011. I been registered since 2007-2008 (I'm not sure) but I've had a lot of health problems that made me unable to fully commit to school. I've only taken one class so far.

Can you help me figure out what should I do?? I'm in panic mode right now.

strong history schools? [29 Dec 2009|01:35pm]

[xkiller_cupcake]
so my brother is a junior in high school, and is really interested in political science, military history, and pretty much anything to do with history and war. He has no idea what schools to even look at, so I was wondering if any of you knew of schools that have strong programs in the above mentioned. Obviously i've looked on collegeboard and google and whatnot, but any other input would be great.
Thanks!

Sorry to be posting twice about something related, but this feels like an emergency. I'm fairly certain I'm going to apply ED II to Bowdoin, and today I printed out the ED Agreement that I need to mail in by Jan. 1st. It asks for a counselor's signature. This is a problem, because, you know, I'm on vacation and so is my college counselor and I'm worried that she's (worst case scenario) not checking emails, checking emails but is out of town, or is in town but would be insanely pissed that I didn't get her signature before school ended. I kind of can't believe this happened, but I guess because not that many people from my school do ED II and there's no real reason to print out an ED Agreement in advance, I never realized I would need her signature. I emailed her explaining the situation and have gotten no reply so far. My dad said that if she agrees to it, she can authorize somebody else signing her name. Is that truly legal? If she doesn't get back to me, would signing her name and later explaining what I had to do absolutely not be an option? She gave her cell number to a friend of mine (not in an inappropriate way, just for questions) and if she doesn't get back to me by Monday or Tuesday I'm going to call her, but that might not lead to any results. Ahhhhhhhh is there anything else I can do? I'm freaking out.

Online college? [26 Dec 2009|07:48pm]

[ mood | aggravated ]

I have done online and traditional college, and I really enjoyed them both. I prefer traditional, but I lead a very busy life and it is not an option right now. I can't see myself NOT taking classes for much longer and it is really bothering me. I want to take online classes again but I had a terrible experience before (via Kaplan University). Does anyone have any experiences -- good OR bad? Any suggestions?
